Teak
Teak, which is native to India and Southeast Asia, is globally renowned for its durability, stability and water resistance. It is used for shipbuilding, furniture, flooring and outdoor decking. Our Teak is from well-managed, old-growth plantations in Indonesia, where the timber is sustainably and legally harvested.
Teak’s high oil content, high tensile strength and tight grain make it particularly suitable where weather resistance is desired. It is used in the manufacture of outdoor furniture and boat decks. It is also used for cutting boards, indoor flooring, countertops and as a veneer for indoor finishings.
Over time teak can weather to a silvery-grey finish, especially when exposed to sunlight.
Teak has been used as a boat-building material for over 2000 years. In addition to relatively high strength, teak is also highly resistant to rot, fungi and mildew. In addition, teak has a relatively low shrinkage ratio, which makes it excellent for applications where it undergoes periodic changes in moisture. It is also prized for the trim work on boat interiors.
Because it is suitable for external use and for decorative use, it is highly prized.
