Closing Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in 2006.
Delta Goodrem sang “We Are One”.
My memories of Australia are a bit dated.
Fifteen years or so ago, I jumped on a plane and headed for Shanghai. The cost of production at home forced me to look beyond our shores and, with the support of a great supplier and some loyal customers, I headed off. I had already taken a look at Vietnam and Malaysia, but I had settled on China. It has been one hell of a ride.
Setting up and running a factory from scratch, knowing nobody and not speaking the language was a challenge, but we survived the GFC, the Trump tariffs on China, and now the Covid crisis and recession. Back in 2019, after more than ten years, the factory was running well and I decided it was time for a change of gear. The plan was to spend most of our time back home, and come to China every two months or so. Communications are now so good and it seemed like the right time.
In early 2020 we were making our plans when the pandemic struck. Suddenly, it was no longer the time to move. We needed to be at the factory to guide the business through the coming storm. I could tell the story of the last three years, but we all have those and I won’t bore you with mine. The key point is that finally we can leave China and our tickets are booked. It has been over three years since I met a client face to face. Communications might be good, but not so good that you can disappear from sight for years at a time. I am going to fix that and I hope to be able to catch up with many of my old clients and friends soon, and meet some new ones.
We will spend at least two months in Australia, based in Sydney. We have just booked a booth at Sydney Build Expo, which is happening at the ICC on March 6th and 7th, so I guess we will be heading back to China after that. Let’s see how it goes.
You may need reminding. We produce:
- Solid French parquetry panels like Versailles, Chantilly and Chenonceau etc
- Chevron and herringbone in various sizes
- Wide French Oak flooring in long lengths
- Solid Oak stair treads and nosings
- Solid Oak doors in French Oak built with full mortise and tenon joints, single-piece mouldings and fitted panels
- Solid wood furniture, decor items and more.

Here are a few links to brochures and social media accounts if you would like to know more.
